It was a great opportunity to work on The Guppy Enigma as a Freelance Animator and Rigger with Watch & Learn Productions. Most of my time was spent in Blender, preparing the Green Alien character rig for use in animation production and laying out timing and poses for a selection of shots then splining and refining the character animation to ensure appealing body mechanics and motion. The use of Unreal as a layout and rendering tool allowed me to get hands-on experience adapting my rigging and animation workflows for a Blender to Unreal production pipeline and our implementation of Rise to track the progress of the production enabled me to manage my time effectively to meet deadlines and act on feedback for my shots efficiently.

I had the opportunity to work on the short film Litter Pecker, by Maisie Race. Below are the shots that I worked on. I enjoyed working with Maisie on this film and it was a great chance to push my skills in ways I hadn't thought of before.
During my time on the NextGen Academy 3D animation course, I produced a piece of character animation with the goal of experimenting with a more exaggerated cartoony style. It was animated in Maya then exported into Unreal for rendering.

Summoning Familiars! is a 3D animated short film featuring two witches trying to, well...
Summon familiars!I was brought on to this project as a 3D animator and had a lot of fun animating the characters in this film. I found the shot of the cat toppling the pile of rocks especially rewarding to work on!

Natura combines my interests in animation and the environment into one humorous, but thought provoking, 3D short film.
I have also tried my hand at modeling and texturing 3D props in Maya and Substance painter. This necklace was created for a Sci-fi themed booklet/brochure, AION-7. Made as a souvenir you would be able to find at the shop of a luxury hotel, situated near popular tourist spots in space.

This model was a personal project used to practice my modeling and texturing skills. As Hollow Knight, by Team Cherry, is one of my favourite games, I decided to create the protagonist from that game in 3D.Below is the original in-game design.

The Great Explosion of 1850 is an educational animated short, telling the story of the Great Seaford Explosion. This was a planned explosion intended to destroy the cliff-face and provide the beach with rubble to protect it from coastal erosion. I was the lead animator for this project, completing a large portion of the animation myself and providing feedback on the remainder of the animation.

Hi, I’m James!I’m a hybrid 3D & 2D animator, specialising in 3D character animation. I love to experiment with different methods of approaching my work and am always making new discoveries about the craft.Through dynamic posing, timing, and body language, I enjoy bringing ideas and characters to life. Always willing to learn and collaborate, I like to try out different roles across production, but find myself constantly coming back to my true love, animation.
